Adjacent to Jinli Street is the ancient Temple of Marquis Wu, while the Jinjiang River lies to north and the Rainbow Bridge to the east. During the Three Kingdoms Period, the production of the famous Shu brocade (a class of richly decorative shuttle-woven fabrics, often made in coloured silks and with or without gold and silver threads) was centralized at the southern bank of the Jinjiang River in Chengdu. By taking Chengdu Metro Line 1, it takes only 10 minutes from Dorsett Regency Chengdu (address: 168 Xi Yulong Street, Qingyang District, Chengdu) to go to Jinli Street (Exit B or C1 of “Jinjiang Hotel Station”).

 Fans of jade may go gaga over the Jade Market and the Jade Street in Hong Kong. Located on Kansu Street and Battery Street, the Jade Market is a collection of over 400 registered stalls selling a wide range of jade pendants, rings, bracelets, carvings and ornaments. The market opens from 10am to 5pm. It is the main gathering place for buyers of jade. You may find that buyers and sellers use cryptic hand signals in maintaining privacy while negotiating the selling price.

The Jade Street is located on Canton Road between Kansu Street and Jordan Road. Shops on the Jade Street operate from Monday through Saturday, 10am to 4pm. A giant jade stone, which is 1.7-meter tall, has been placed at the junction of Canton Road and Jordan Road as a landmark on the Jade Street.

Jade varies in colour from deep green through yellow and brown to white. The jade being sold in Hong Kong is mostly jadeite from Myanmar, ranging from natural pieces to those impregnated with polymers or dyed to enhance the colour.

It requires certain expertise in evaluating, choosing and purchasing jade. You may purchase jade at shops with the “Natural Fei Cui Quality Mark”. The scheme is launched as part of the jewellery integrity campaign. It ensures that consumers can purchase jade ornaments that are intact in their natural state.

You can go to the Jade Market and the Jade Street by taking MTR (Exit C, Yau Ma Tei MTR Station).

Shanghai Street was one of the earliest reclaimed lands in Hong Kong. It was initially known as “Station Street” following the establishment of the Yau Ma Tei Police Station. In 1898, the street was divided into two main parts: Station Street South and Station Street North. In 1909, the entire street was officially changed to Shanghai Street.

Before the 1970s when Nathan Road became prosperous, Shanghai Street was the leading corridor in Hong Kong. Today, along this unique and historic street, you can find shops with the pre-war tenement buildings filled with decades-old traditional bridal shops, fabric stores, gold retailers, barbershops and stationery stores. Redolent with traditional culture, the street offers a window into the Hong Kong of yesteryear. It’s just like wandering into a movie set of old Hong Kong.

Engineer’s Office of the Former Pumping Station

The Engineer’s Office of the Former Pumping Station (Water Supplies Department), a.k.a. “The Red Brick House”, is a Grade I historical building located at 344 Shanghai Street.

Shophouses

A group of ten pre-war shophouses is located at 600-626 Shanghai Street (in the Mongkok section of Shanghai Street). They have been listed as Grade I historical buildings.

How to get there?

Tourists can visit Shanghai Street by taking MTR (Exit B2 of Yau Ma Tei MTR Station, leading to Waterloo Road).

The centre-piece of the park is the world’s only full-size replica of Noah’s Ark. There are 67 pairs of life-sized sculptures of exotic animals, birds and creatures.

Other attractions of the park such as “Ark Expo”, “Ark Garden”, “Ark Life Education House”, “Noah’s Adventureland” and “Treasure House” will lead you to experience the journey of Noah and learn the Great Flood in History.

How to get there?

The Noah’s Ark (Hong Kong) is located on the Ma Wan waterfront and under the Tsing Ma Bridge. Ferry and bus services are available for visiting the Noah’s Ark.
